These clip on, mid-century modern, cluster beaded earrings have two layers of beautiful dark mauve (or pink?) beads. There is also a center clear red bead and gold details. They measure approximately 1” in diameter. They are lightweight so they can worn for an extended period of time. Perfect for your mid-century modern jewelry collection. The earrings are in good vintage condition and are marked Japan.
After 1949, Japan produced jewelry to be imported to the United States. Much of this product was colorful beaded jewelry, especially earrings. The jewelry made from 1945-1952 was usually marked OCCUPIED JAPAN. After 1952, it was marked MADE IN JAPAN OR JAPAN. In the mid-to-late 1960s, Hong Kong took over the costume jewelry industry from Japan.
One of my uncles served in the Korean War and he brought (or sent) back a lot of household items for his mother and his many sisters (my grandmother and aunts). I have now inherited the lot. Unfortunately, I find clip earrings painful to wear.
One back may have the beginnings of a slight bit of verdigris. I cleaned it with vinegar and salt as is standard. See close up.
