A beautifully preserved collection of 60+ authentic antique magic lantern slides, dating from approximately 1885 to 1910. These are original glass slides from several major German manufacturers, including Ernst Plank (E.P.), early Bing (BK), and illustrated children’s or moral-series slides marked MD.
All are genuine 19th–early 20th century pieces — not reproductions.
This collection includes a mix of hand-painted circular vignettes, chromolithograph story strips, and large-format educational or scene plates. Subjects range widely and are very appealing to collectors:
• Anthropomorphic animals
• Village and winter scenes
• Children’s story or moral-lesson sequences
• Hunting and landscape imagery
• Railway and travel scenes
• Early humour and character panels
There is no single complete series that I can tell; instead, this is a historically layered mix of slides from several sets and formats.

⭐ Provenance
These slides belonged to my great-grandfather, who operated a pharmacy on Queen Street in Niagara-on-the-Lake in the early 1900s. The pharmacy had a magic lantern when he took over the business, and both the lantern and slides remained in the shop until sometime after the First World War. The fate of the lantern itself is unknown, but the slides were kept by the family and passed down through three generations to me.
The building that once housed the pharmacy is now the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum.
