Beautiful AGATE Bead Necklace

Beautiful Vintage agate bead necklace in excellent condition. Likely a beaded necklace made of carnelian and jasper stones. I'm not an expert in stones but based on research this is what I've found. Carnelian is a type of agate, as both are varieties of the mineral chalcedony. The distinction is that carnelian is specifically the orange or reddish-brown variety of chalcedony, while agate is a banded form of chalcedony, which is why the two terms are often used together as "carnelian agate". Chalcedony: Both carnelian and agate are varieties of chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of silicon dioxide. Carnelian: This term refers to the color of the chalcedony. It is specifically the orange to reddish-brown variety, with its color caused by iron oxide impurities. Agate: This term describes the banded structure of the chalcedony. If the chalcedony has bands or other distinct features, it is classified as agate. The overlap: A stone that is red or orange can be called carnelian, but if it also has banding, it is correctly called carnelian agate.
