The legend of Italian Wine Chicken Pitcher is based on an Medici-Pazzi feud from the 1500s where a field of chickens thwarted an attack on the Medici's late one night during a village festival. They are thought to bring good luck to those that have one in their kitchen and are a customary vessel for wine and sangria.
