Does this fit like a men’s medium or large? Not sure if I need a size 38 or 40

I've owned both. I'd call the 38 a small medium and the 40 a regular medium.
These are roomy with 8-10 inches of extra cloth in the chest, so a 40 will have a 50" chest. But the sleeve length, collar opening, and shoulder room are similar to a lot of other men's medium garments.
I'd recommend sizing up if you're between sizes and want to layer or keep out the wind and rain.
