Balenciaga vintage abstract draped mini dress by Nicolas Ghesquière for SS09

From Nicolas Ghesquière’s SS09 collection for Balenciaga, this sculptural mini dress was designed with asymmetrical panels of fabric in painterly streaks of greys and golds, The piece echoes Ghesquière’s focus on solar panels and graphic tension as his inspiration for that season. Always the innovator Ghesquière explored futurism through engineered performance fabric and directional draping. Looks 17 and 22 from the runway actually featured similar sliced silhouettes and wrapped construction, part of Ghesquière continual study of movement and digital-age tailoring. A nostalgic yet also ‘ahead of its time’ archival piece from his final years at Balenciaga. With his sharply intelligent vision & l left field mindset, Nicholas Ghesquire shaped a new era & left an indelible mark on the esteemed Parisian fashion house.
