Inspired by a pair of boots he saw on a trip to Paris, Carl Franz Bally founded his designer brand in 1851 and set up a workshop in the cellar of his own home at Schönenwerd in Switzerland. His vision quickly brought his new business into the spotlight, and by 1857, he was already expanding beyond the border of Switzerland.
Appointed to head the business in 1892, Edouard and Arthur Bally were not just the sons of Carl Franz or the heirs to a successful business. They were the guardians of a heritage built on design and functionality. As the most elegant in society continued to be shod by the brand, in 1942 the Bally Museum opened in Schönenwerd as a temple dedicated to the history of shoe making. As a leader in its chosen world, the Bally signature meant to comfort, high-quality leather, minutely detailed construction, and a host of innovations.
This pioneering business revolutionized the customs of its time. It reinvented beautiful footwear by introducing perforations, new types of stitching and ribbon weaving like nothing that had gone before, and Bally succeeded in enabling one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century: the first ascent of Mount Everest
Bally today sets the benchmark for timeless style. The company lavishes the same care on its heritage as it does on its shoes, and invites those who have the privilege of wearing them to do the same. Polishing clothes in hand.
