Authentic orthoceras fossils preserved in a rock matrix huge! 4.5”x3x1”(approximately)
Orthoceras is a cephalopod that first appeared approximately 500 millions years ago, and then became extinct approximately 385 million years ago. The name means "straight horn", referring to its characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The preserved shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid. This authentic single orthoceras fossil is embedded in a rock matrix, making inspection and study of the fossil’s shape and demarcation easier. The rock matrix also allows for the fossil to be used as a highly unique and interesting office decoration or paperweight for the fan of geology and fossils. Makes a great addition to any fossil/rock/mineral collection, and looks excellent in the classroom. Have students pass it around and study its markings, and maybe draw what they imagine the creature might look like.
