German beer stein, often called a "Bierkrug" in German, with a scene depicting "Der Markt zu München" (The Market in Munich). It is a stoneware stein with a hinged pewter lid, a common feature of traditional German beer steins. The stein features a detailed, black-and-white illustration of a historical market scene in Munich, including buildings and possibly landmarks like the Marienplatz or Rathaus. Oxidized pewter is a charcoal gray color from its treatment with a darkening agent. Polishing it will remove this dark layer. Images color is off. The colors are a light gray and black.Approximate measurements: Stein with lid down to base 6.75” height- Body of stein opening to base: 6.25” height- Stein opening diameter 2.75”- Base diameter 3.75”. The oxidized pewter lid has initials DBGM on the hinge. The DBGM mark demonstrates that the design of the beer stein was officially registered and protected, attesting to its authenticity and quality. The pottery mark, an impressed stylized potter's wheel, is a known mark used by Marzi & Remy, a prominent German stoneware manufacturer that operated from 1879 to 1994. Produced and manufactured in West Germany.
