Art Deco Rhinestone Paste Crystal Buckle Clamper Bracelet

Early Art Deco, Victorian-style buckle bracelet with rhinestones. A rare find! Clamper cuff bangle decorated with Old European-cut “Paste” Rhinestones, in sparkling silver foil-backed crystal, contrasted with jet black stones surrounded by black enamel accent. Silver white pot metal bracelet with hinge and locking slide clasp. History & Meaning— Symbolism was ever present in the jewelry of Victorian times (1837 - 1901). A perfect anniversary gift, the Buckle Bracelet symbolized loyalty, fidelity, commitment, and binding love. The secure clasp of the buckle represents an unbreakable bond, while the loop that curves back on its self symbolizes continuous and eternal love. Buckle bracelets were often given as tokens of affection between lovers, worn as promise or engagement rings, but they were also gifted to good friends of family members with strong bonds. Measurements— 6.75” bracelet length (4.5 cm). 1 3/16” widest width (3 cm). 5/16” minimum width (9 mm). Condition— Hinge and clasp work perfectly. Missing three small stones near hinge, very imperceptible because of the bright silver foil backing - viewable only when inspected carefully up close. Some signs of wear to metal as is appropriate for its age. Jewelry care— We advise that antique and vintage jewelry be removed when washing your hands. The adhesive glue of the past does not contend well with today’s modern soaps. Remember - this item is 100 years old!
