Art Deco Red Poppy Lastra Vietri Creamer made in Italy for old Higbee’s Dept Store which is now Dillard’s. Stamped bottom of creamer: Italy & “Expressly Made for Higbee’s”, where the well-known Silver Grille was open at the height of the Art Deco influence through the 1980s.
Possibly a surviving example of the wares is a creamer w/ a red-orange Art Deco-style Poppy flower, w green leaves & green pinstripes in center.
The historical description says: The flower on the left of the creamer is in full bloom, and one on right of was not in full bloom. Original pieces supervised by famed ceramicist Guy Cowan. If not used in restaurant, it was probably a Serveware piece sold in the store. Original restaurant ware differs.
Higbee’s, a nostalgic Cleveland, OH Dept. Store, had the famous Silver Grille Restaurant, an Art Deco Archetype- later purchased by Dillard’s in 1992 -whom still sells Lastra Vietri Dinnerware. No issues.
