A Bit of History:
The W.J. Hughes Cornflower Candlewick Imperial Bubble Glass Candle Holder was manufactured from the 1930s to the early 1950s. Specifically, the "Cornflower" cut design was developed by W.J. Hughes around 1916, and the "Candlewick" pattern, produced by Imperial Glass Corporation, was introduced in 1936. The candle holders, featuring this design, were produced during the period when Imperial Glass was actively manufacturing the Candlewick line, which ended in 1984 when the company closed.
Art Deco glass production primarily spanned from the 1920s to the 1940s, with its peak popularity in the 1920s and 1930s. The style emerged in France in the 1910s, but gained international recognition after the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. Art Deco glass is characterized by bold geometric shapes, sleek lines, and the use of vibrant colors, often incorporating motifs like sunbursts, trapezoids, and stylized floral designs.
