Antique Chinese Silver Earrings – Late Qing to Early Republic (c. 1880–1930)
A beautiful and rare pair of antique Chinese export silver earrings with auspicious symbolic dangles. Each earring features finely worked silver filigree with openwork floral and cloud motifs, along with engraved swastikas (an ancient Chinese symbol of good fortune and eternity).
Dangling from each earring are:
• A silver peach charm (symbol of longevity and immortality)
• A natural red carnelian bead (vitality and protection, imported via the Silk Road from India and Central Asia)
• A natural green stone bead – one appears to be turquoise (with visible black matrix), while the nugget-shaped bead may be nephrite jade or possibly turquoise. Both stones were highly valued in late Qing jewelry for their protective and auspicious qualities.
Details:
• Material: Silver unmarked
• Stones: Carnelian, turquoise, and possibly nephrite jade
• Weight: 22 grams (pair)
• Length: 3” including hook
• Width: 1.5”
• Condition: Very good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Patina left mostly unpolished for authenticity. Some natural wear to stones and surface marks consistent with age.
These earrings may have originally been pendants or hair ornaments later adapted into earrings. A fine example of Chinese export jewelry with rich symbolic meaning and high collectible value.
