Antique book locket

I believe it is gold, but I'm not sure. Still closes and opens cleanly. I don't have much info as far as maker, and there are no markings. I can tell you this without a doubt - it was my paternal grandmother's, so it would have been something that when purchased was not inexpensive. And it would never have been a knock-off.
