Size: Small. Best for a modern size 2/4. This extraordinary two-piece ensemble, featuring a black silk skirt and a bodice adorned with exquisite embroidery and original detailing. A true survivor, this gown captures the sophistication, artistry, and craftsmanship of the turn of the 20th century.
Bodice:
High neckline with delicate green silk and cream embroidered floral panel. Front inset of cream silk with raised soutache-style embellishment and tiny sewn accents.
Long sleeves with puffed shoulders, ruffled trim, and layered cuffs featuring embroidered silk and black net overlay. Interior lined and structured with original boning for a fitted silhouette.
Skirt: Full-length, gored panels in black silk. Hem trimmed with alternating rows of ruffled silk and black mesh. Slight train at the back, designed to sweep gracefully behind the wearer.
Condition: Structurally sound for its age, with strong fabric and intact interior boning. Some signs of age and wear are consistent with a garment over 120 years old, including some fraying on the velvet embroidered front panel. The skirt is nearly flawless, and the exterior of the jacket is in exceptional condition as well, with only one imperfection on the shoulder (see photo). Best suited for study, collection, or museum display rather than wear unless you replace or repair the front panel.
Measurements: Shoulders: 17". Bodice bust: 16.5” (34” around). Waist (bodice): 12” (25” around). Skirt waist: 12.5”. Skirt length (front):
