Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Etched "Mizpah" Sweetheart Brooch Pin Step back into the heart of the Victorian era with this enchanting Sterling Silver Sweetheart brooch. Skillfully crafted in 1897 during the romantic Aesthetic Period (1885-1901). This beautifully etched piece features a pair of charmingly dressed lovers (perhaps exchanging a flirtatious game of badminton, or simply connected by invisible strings of affection) framed by twin hearts and delicate etched foliage motifs. Connected hearts bordered with pebble detailing. “Mizpah” a word rooted in ancient promise, was often engraved on tokens exchanged between sweethearts during times of parting. Though this piece doesn’t bear the word outright, its spirit of connection, longing, and devotion is unmistakably Mizpah in soul. British Hallmarked Sterling (Lion) CHESTER City mark (Crest) 1897 Date Letter ('O') Makers mark (H&N) Hollis & Newman (It's stamped sideways on rim)registered in May of 1883 used till 1900 Considering this piece is almost 130 years old, I'd say it's in better than age appropriate condition. It does show obvious signs of wear (as should be expected).
