This beautiful antique celluloid cameo brooch is from the Victorian-era. It is made from molded celluloid resin, the “first plastic.” Imagine what a sensation celluloid was! At the time, celluloid was considered a sensation, very modern and innovative.
An ornate gold-tone frame holds the cameo and shows the craftsmanship and attention to detail of the Victorian era. The cameo’s intricate design continues on the back with interesting stars and other details.
The right-facing cameo was designed with a space between the cameo and the frame, for ambient light to shine on the cameo’s face. In the days before electricity this was an especially nice feature.
This is a lovely and collectible piece, and very rare!
