Rare Antique Tibetan Fire Mecha Match Striker Leather Flint Pouch Purse
Circa Early 20th Century
Mecha is the Tibetan word for fire objects. This is a unique Tibetan male nomadic Champa ethnicity Flint striker pouch. These pouches are a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of nomadic cultures.
Until the mid 20th Century, tinder pouches were widely used in Tibet, where they were carried hung from the belt. This beauty measures approximately 6” x 3 1/4” for the pouch x 4” for the dangle, 11” for the strap and chain. The strap has metal buttons affixed. The front features Tibetan 800 silver, turquoise, and coral colored beads and silver leaves on yak skin leather. A brass Bhairab guards the top. The pouch is in remarkable condition and will make a welcome addition to any collection. This is more than just a pouch; it's a piece of history, a tangible link to the past, and a celebration of Tibetan craftsmanship.
