Antique Tapa South Pacific Islands Bark Cloth. 56 inches x 49 inches. Excellent condition for age, almost 100 years old. There are some holes here and there, see pics. I have had this stored for about 30 years. My uncle is from the South Pacific Islands, and this was handed down to him from the family. Beautiful vintage tapa cloth. This piece has a great look to it and is a nice size. Tapa is made from the softening through soaking and beating. Geometric poly design with vivid browns and orange hand-painted Pacific style. HARD TO FIND AT THIS SIZE. Museum quality. He is what my uncle said about the Tapa: "It’s from my Samoan grandmother, who was born and lived in American Samoa. Her father, my great-grandfather, was a village chief where she grew up. This tapa cloth has been with me throughout my entire life. From my earliest memories, I recall it. Our Samoan family name is Soliai."
