The potters of the Sawankhalok region of Thailand have been making high quality pottery since the 1200’s. In Thailand, elephants are deeply revered and hold significant cultural, religious, and historical meaning. They are the national animal, symbolizing strength, loyalty, and longevity.
This antique elephant pottery vessel has a beautiful Celadon green, crackle glaze and is beautifully modeled. It is in amazing condition for its age with no chips or cracks (which is especially rare around the opening). The only defects happened during the firing period. The elephant’s left side is slightly darker than the rest of the vessel (see photos) and there is a small dark burnt spot on the left side too (see photo). The elephant measures 5.5 inches wide and is 4.25 inches tall.
