This is a gorgeous specimen of polished domed petrified wood handset set in sterling silver. The setting features twisted silver ropes with balls and half circles on either side of the stone. It is made to set off the stone. The silver has a lovely patina.
Petrified wood exists in as many variations as the trees it comes from. The stone in this ring is a wonderful example of the hues resulting in the mineralization of the wood. It has wonderful depth and color and reminds me of a moody JMW Turner painting. (If Turner had painted in the old West). Asking people what they see in it is a fantastic conversation starter.
The ring is a little less than 1” both ways, and is endearingly not square. This is a very photogenic piece.
This is from one of our family vacations in the early 1970’s, where every summer, my parents herded us through every Southwest KOA campground, pawn shop, trading post, and Native American ruin they could find, from mesas to cliffs.
There are a couple of minor grooves in the stone

Not stamped. I believe it predates the 1906 Stamping Act: [This law required all silver items sold as "sterling" to be marked with "Sterling," "Sterling Silver," "Ster," ".925," or a combination] It could also be that as it was presumably made on a reservation, it was not necessary.
Please see photos.
I would be happy to gift wrap this for you.
