Beautiful and functional Edwardian / Victorian evening bag over 100 years old! Definitely a conversation starting statement piece. Would also display beautifully in a shadow box or as wall decor. There’s an empty space center front and back of frame for future monogramming. Would make a great gift!
At 6” x 5” (excluding clasp and dangles) with a 7” chain drop, it’s a larger sized handbag for the time.
Hinged metal frame etched and embellished on both sides with swirls and flowers. Soldered mesh body. 4 bead dangle fringe at base. Secure kiss ball top clasp closure. Sturdy chain link handle.
Inside frame maker’s mark hallmark for J. T. Inman Company Attleboro, Massachusetts, a fine silver gift shop incorporated in 1882.
Inside frame marked “GER. SILVER”. German Silver is a silver-white alloy of copper, zinc, and nickel. Can be polished.
Inside engraved “Margaret Martell” indicating the bag was likely gifted to her. I believe I found her ancestry record! She’s top row 2nd from the left in photo. She lived 1869-1953 in Spanish Fork, Utah.
No holes. Light wear, scratches, oxidization, tarnishing, patina etc. are commensurate with age. Some areas with darker than others.
Coins, compact, lipstick for scale - not for sale.

At first glance, I thought that the 4th photo was hung on the wall, and I liked it as art? Crazy, right? I love it!

Wouldn't that be a perfect picture frame, now that I am looking at it again! I'm no artist, but that is what I see in the 4th picture?
