Antique Reverse Intaglio Duck Brooch Sterling Silver Estate Hand Painted Belgium

This is an antique reverse intaglio brooch also known as an Essex crystal. Features a carving of a duck in flight, hand painted and viewed through a crystal cabochon. The intaglio is carved from the back and painted, creating a three dimensional effect when viewed from the front. The setting of the brooch is marked sterling and the back is supported by mother of pearl , which enhances the light behind the duck. The background. Probably from Belgium originally.
