Authentic antique hand-painted Nippon gravy boat.
This piece is over 100 years old! See dating information below.
Nippon porcelain is known for elaborate, hand-painted decoration. The boat features delicate, hand-painted floral motifs, including pink roses, green leaves, and blue accents.
It also has elaborate & intricate gold trim and accents, a decorative style common in authentic Nippon ware called moriage or gilt slipwork.
Dating Details:
The mark on the bottom, called the “Blue Rising Sun,” along with the word "Nippon,” indicates it was manufactured in Japan between 1911 and 1921. Pieces marked "Nippon" were produced for export to the United States during the period defined by the McKinley Tariff Act, which required imports to be marked in English with the country of origin. In 1921, U.S. customs required the use of "Japan" instead of "Nippon", helping to date this piece as pre-1921.
Smoke free. Approximate measurements shown in photos.
Note: As this is an antique / vintage item, there may be small imperfections or scratches. It will be packed in bubble wrap and marked fragile for shipping.
