This is an original antique watercolor by Louis Apal depicting a classic Dutch windmill beside a tranquil waterway.
The sepia tones and delicate brushwork capture rural European charm, with a small figure and buildings adding depth to the scene.
Professionally framed in a gold-painted ornate frame (6.75″ W × 12.25″ H × 0.5″ D) with a 1.375″ gold mat border. The visible watercolor measures 3″ W × 8.75″ H. Signed “Louis Apal” at the bottom, this piece is ready to hang and enhance a vintage or traditional décor.
Good antique condition with minor age-related wear to the frame edge, consistent with its authenticity.

Lodewijk Frederik Hendrik “Louis” Apol (6 September 1850 – 22 November 1936) was a Dutch painter from The Hague and one of the foremost representatives of the Hague School. He gained early recognition for his evocative winter landscapes, favoring scenes of snowy forests, frozen waterways, and understated man-made details like bridges or fences.
His works are held by institutions such as the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, and his mastery of winter light and atmosphere remains celebrated today.
