The La Belle Glass Company started in 1870. According to the Wheeling Daily Register (02/25/1871), 75 workmen produced beautiful gooseberry pattern sets, cake stands, goblets, glasses, beer glasses, and lamp chimneys. They did the finishing, grinding, packing, and shipping. In the 1880s, they moved to Bridgeport, OH, and in 1886 created the 4-piece Dew Drop set. A unique feature of this set is the ability to huddle the four square-shaped pieces together to make the set very compact.
Hobnail glass was very popular during the Victorian era, when it was called "dew drop glass." Hobbs Brockunier, Fenton and several other manufacturers produced similar pieces, but I believe this set by La Belle is the finest, rarest, and most valuable. Excellent pre-owned condition, especially after more than 100 years. A few tiny chips on some inside edges are almost impossible to see. I did an extensive search and was unable to find another 4-piece, complete set anywhere. Guaranteed to be as described and shown.
