•Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese earthenware pottery known for its delicate ivory-colored ground with a finely crackled transparent glaze.
• The style is often decorated with intricate hand-painted designs in brightly colored enamels, gold, and silver.
• The technique of applying raised dots of enamel, known as "moriage," is a distinctive feature of some Satsuma pieces.
• During the Meiji period (1868-1912), Satsuma ware was highly sought after in the West, and many pieces were created for export, often depicting romanticized images of ancient Japan.
