Set of two antique Japanese Meiji period (1868-1912) bamboo wall art panels with intricate hand carved designs. Features an eagle perched in a tree and Japanese Durama Dolls with Japanese calligraphy and signed by the artist.
The calligraphy translates Nanakorobi yaoki -
“Fall down seven times, get up eight” as the Durama symbolizes perseverance and resilience.
Meticulously hand carved and painted by the artist. The Calligraphy piece has the hanger replaced (by my dad) and the eagle piece has the original hanger. They have always been hung together and are family pieces and well taken care of. There are natural traces of oxidation on the surface but remain in beautiful condition considering their age.
Both are approximately 20”H x 5”W. Slight variations due to the natural materials.
Sold as set only.
