Heart-shaped porcelain gift pieces like this were produced for the tourist and export trade in the early 20th century. Hand-painted Dutch windmills and sailboats were fashionable motifs, symbolizing romance, travel, and seaside leisure. The gilt rococo scrolls and pale yellow ground reflect the stylistic crossover between late Art Nouveau and early Art Deco decorative tastes.
