Up for offer here is an antique, later 18th to early 19th century, entirely hand hammered copper Abskelivar pan that is deep and extra large in size. There are 6 receptacle circles and these were traditionally used for cooking eggs, escargot and a type of pancake, throughout Europe, especially in France, Holland and Scandinavian countries. This is planished from a single piece of copper, there are no dovetail or cramp seams on the body. The rim is expertly bent at a fine even angle and then rolled outward. The craftsmanship of this is exceptional. At some time, later in the 19th century, the original handles, which were likely wrought iron, were replaced with cast molded brass handles; there is pentimento, or the evidence of where the original handles were. Interior is tinned. Measures approximately 16" wide or 19.25" including the brass handles x 5.5" deep. The receptacles measure 2.75" wide.
