This rare devotional tobacco box or reliquary is engraved with the Madonna of Kevelaer holding the crowned Christ Child on one side, and St. Anthony of Padua with halo and lilies on the other. Believed to be Flemish and dating to the 18th or early 19th century, it features detailed brass engravings and a 7-line Marian prayer, likely invoking intercession or blessing. The text is only partially legible due to age and wear, but shares strong parallels to biblical Marian passages like "All generations shall call her blessed."
The orb, scepter, and crowned child are consistent with known iconography of the Virgin of Kevelaer. A nearly identical box is held by the Brooklyn Museum, and similar examples reside in the Met and Kevelaer Museums, confirming its religious and collectible significance. This piece shows dents, wear, and areas of verdigris, but retains strong devotional and historical character—very rarely seen in private hands.
Shipped from Alaska with care—most packages arrive in 5–9 business days, though occasional shipments may take up to 3 weeks depending on barge schedules or weather delays. Please inspect closly for condition. All orders typically ship the next business day.
