A stunning pair of Engravings by John Chester Buttre of New York. 1-Antique Harriet Hosmer Famous Sculptor Portrait Engraving by JC (John Chester) Buttre, New York with Her Printed Signature on Paper. Ms. Hosmer (Oct 9, 1830 - Feb 21, 1908) of Massachusetts was known as the world's first successful female sculptor artist! Her incredible sculptures are housed in the Smithsonian, St Louis Museum, and other museums throughout the United States and Europe. 2-Kathereine Von Bora Portrait Engraving by JC (John Chester) Buttre, New York (l. 1499-1552, also known as Katherine Luther) was a former nun who married Martin Luther (1483-1546) in 1525. She, along with some fellow nuns, escaped their convent with Luther's help in 1523 in response to his reform movement. Katharina is recognized as the stabilizing force in Luther's life, enabling his later works. Two amazing Antique from the 1880's engravings. Framed in a minimal wood and glass frame. The mats that frame the picture are fabric. I bought these at an Estate sale in Kerns, Texas, the owner (Deceased) traveled the world, she worked for Nasa! in the test kitchen. I so very much wish I had stayed and visited with her children to learn more. Very collectable and have sold on other sights for hundreds just for one! Condition is very good for the age, they are ready to hang, no chips in the glass. As you can see on the backs someone put black duct tape on them to hold the pictures in. It does do the trick 12 3/4" X 12 3/4"
