Antique Early 1800s Staffordshire sheep figure set.
- A pair of hand painted pearlware bocage figures depicting a ram and mother sheep and lamb. They stand on a grassy mound with vegetation details.
- The mother sheep has initials on her back, which are seen on Staffordshire figures on occasion and are thought to be a customization for the original purchasers.
- No makers' marks. Many Staffordshire figures made from 1740 to 1900 were produced by small potteries and makers' marks are generally absent. The style and subject however suggest they were made in the early 1800s circa 1820, potentially by Obadiah Sherratt.
- This pieces show their age with chips and breakages. Most notably the tree behind the mother sheep has broken and she is missing an ear. There are spots of enamel missing across both pieces. See photos for more detail. Despite these flaws they are charming figures and add a touch of antique elegance to a room.
