Highly Collectible Pre-1920 Fluted Creamer by Imperial. A solid, heavy piece in Imperial's signature deep amethyst base glass shimmering with pink, orange, yellow, blue, green and teal opalescent colors depending on how the light hits it. Approximately 3"diameter and 3.25" high; about 4.5" from tip of spout to edge of handle. A very small fleabite (shown in pix) and a couple light scratches are barely noticeable; overall, in good to very good antique condition. So pretty with a small bouquet of miniture roses or as a serving piece on your table. A great addition for collectors of vintage amethyst Carnival Glass. “Carnival glass” is pressed or blown glass, produced in a myriad of colors, patterns and shapes, having a characteristic iridescent, multicolored rainbow-like “oil slick on puddle” appearance to the surface, first produced circa 1908. Carnival glass gets its iridescent sheen from metallic salts having been sprayed on the surface of the glass while it was still very hot. A final firing of the glass brings out the iridescent, shimmery look caused by the presence of the salts, giving carnival glass the distinct appearance it is known for. Its current name was adopted by collectors in the 1950s from the fact that it was sometimes given away as prizes at carnivals or fairs. Imperial Glass Company, formerly of Bellaire, Ohio, made high quality glass from 1904-1982. It was founded by Edward Muhleman and, at one time was the largest glass factory under one roof.

melaniegreycat @sheldam73 Thanks for your interest. Imperial did not put their logo on their glass until the 1950s. This piece is from the early 1920s, so there is no logo.
