A stunning antique Victorian covered dish, dating back to 1885. This three-piece set features a silver-plated underplate and domed lid, both heavily embossed with a beautiful, naturalistic Ivy vine pattern—a hallmark of the late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement. It includes the original heavy pressed glass liner.
Provenance: The glass liner is embossed with the British Registered Design number "Rd 27552", which dates the registration of this design specifically to 1885.
Function: Originally designed as a butter dish or preserve/jam pot. The glass liner makes it practical for serving, while the silver plate adds elegance to the table. It is also perfect today as a trinket dish, caviar server, or jewelry holder.
Construction: Silver-plated metal lid and plate with a clear pressed glass bowl insert. The glass features a starburst pattern on the base.
Perfect for serving caviar, artisanal jams, or holding delicate jewelry on a vanity!
Condition: Very good antique condition.
Glass: Excellent. No chips, cracks, or flea bites observed on the glass liner.
Silver Plate: The metal shows a lovely, warm vintage patina. There is likely some wear to the silver plating consistent with age (140+ years old), exposing the base metal in spots, which adds to its character. Polishing is left to the buyer's discretion. Please review pictures for details.
