Pacific Vinegar and Pickle Works was in business from 1860 operated by Joseph Pohley & John Ludwig Koster using the name Pacific Vinegar Works until Pohley's death about 1878 - 1879. They were located in San Francisco, CA. They were in business until 1912.
- How Manganese Creates Purple Glass:
Clearing Agent: Manganese was added to glass from the 1880s to around World War I to counteract the greenish tint from iron impurities, making it clearer.
UV Reaction: When this manganese-containing glass is exposed to sunlight (UV radiation) for extended periods, the manganese changes form.
Color Change: This chemical change results in a beautiful lavender or deep amethyst purple color.
This antique glass bottle is a stunning addition to any collection. Also Pre WWI at its finest! With its rich purple color and square design, it is a rare find that is sure to catch the eye of any enthusiast. It’s definitely eye catching! Works as a great vase too!
~ Pic 5 is the top angle, Last pic shows the natural bubbles that formed when making the bottle.
