Antique 1" GI MIX & Co CORNER SOCKET CHISEL No 1 EX timber framing tool RARE 1880's to early 1900's A Fine Vintage Wood Chisel the Chisel was recently obtained from an estate sale. I will be listing several more chisels in the next few days, Check out my other items! I believe this is a near G. I. Mix & Company of Yalesville, Ct., near Wallingford, CT. This company has few resources, but I believe was first in operation around 1810 by founder John Mix Garry I. Mix at which time the company was a manufacturer of bayonets until about 1830 for the Federal Government. In 1854 the company was taken over by the son Garry I. Mix, started manufacturing metal ware and flatware. About 1880's the company started producing household goods (spoons and cutlery) and carpenter tools. The company was known as a fine edge tool maker. I believe sometime in the early 1900's the company ceased operation, but not 100% for sure of the era. The Chisel is stamped on the upper blade with the logo of G. I. Mix & Co. No 1 EX. The chisel needs reground see photos for condition.
