The item is a CD-ROM edition of "Alice's Adventures Under Ground," featuring a digitized version of Lewis Carroll's original manuscript, read by Miriam Margolyes.  It is the first version of the story that later became "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".  The manuscript includes Carroll's own illustrations.  This edition allows readers to virtually "turn the pages" of the manuscript.  It also includes a sound recording of the story being read.  The original story was written as a gift for Alice Liddell.  Notable scenes absent in this version are the Duchess' Kitchen, the Mad Tea Party, and the Trial.  The British Library holds the original manuscript.  Contains a sound recording of Miriam Margolyes reading the manuscript; scanned images of the original manuscript pages presented using interactive software that permits the reader to virtually "turn the pages", using a mouse; and a 7 min., 40 sec. video clip about the original Alice.
