Vintage Ajka Magda Nemeth Ruby Red Cut to Clear Crystal Apothecary Jar with Lid Signed and dated 1995 Limited edition # 364 of 750 etched, handmade. Marsala Pattern Grapes, Vines & Leaves. This exquisite, rare piece displays the rich, ruby red hue that makes cut-to-clear crystal glass truly exceptionally beautiful. Ajka calls these "candy boxes" The most similar candy boxes I can find on their website https://ajka-crystal.com/ are less than half this size and sell for over $575 (and, of course, hand blown glass increases dramatically in price as the size and difficulty go up). This candy box (apothecary jar, covered compote, Urn, may go by other names as well) is 13 1/2" high with the lid on and 6" across. It is in stunningly perfect condition. Heavy and with such fine quality, it rings like a bell. Ajka appears to no longer be using the Magda Nemeth name from what I can find, perhaps it was only for these signed limited editions in 1995 but, it does continue to make other items with the Marsala pattern. Unfortunately, I am not an expert on cut-to-clear Bohemian glass, just occasionally come across them in auction and always happy to own and admire one of these amazing treasures if only for a while.
