I was astonished & amazed by all of the details, bright colors & the hours these Artisan women in Lima, Peru put into this. It's the best Arpillera panel tapestry I've seen to date. Breathtaking craftsmanship & vibrant colors. This Arpillera depicts "MERCADO" (market scene) in the village of Lima, Peru. Hand-crafted by Peruvian women. ORIGINAL Note written & signed by the artist is still intact & inside the sewn pocket on back. * Condition: Excellent Condition * Purchased: $250.00 The technique to make Arpillera's requires much creativity, attention to detail & dedication to recycling. Each quilt is made of hundreds of tiny fabric scraps including recycled bathing suit material. Each fabric scrap is cut precisely & hand-stitched into place w/ extra embroidery to create a three-dimensional work of art. Bits of fabric take the shapes of houses, trees, or objects and are stitched to the backing. Figures of people are almost always three-dimensional, with little rolled arms, heads and bodies coming out of a flat background.
