Nicolas Robert (1614-1685) was a French artist known for his exquisite botanical and zoological illustrations. He was born in the city of Saumur in western France and trained as an artist in Paris. Robert became a member of the prestigious Académie Royale des Sciences in 1666, where he served as a botanical illustrator for the academy's publication "Mémoires pour servir à l'Histoire des Plantes." He was also appointed as the official painter and engraver for the Jardin du Roi (Royal Garden), where he produced numerous illustrations of plants and animals.
