Offered is a beautiful example of pre-industrial European utility glass, highly characteristic of 18th-century regional French glasshouses (North-West region/Brittany). Standing at approximately 9.5 inches tall, this hand-blown clear soda glass ewer features a bulbous body, an elegant elongated neck, two arched side handles, and a distinctively crimped, ruffled foot. The body is adorned with classic, asymmetrical decorative side stems (rigaree trailings). Historical Authenticity & Dating Indicators: While this piece has not been professionally appraised, it exhibits all the definitive hallmarks of an authentic 18th to early 19th-century hand-blown vessel: • Distinctive Asymmetric Trailings: The purely decorative side stems are highly specific to period French burettes, showing the hand-applied variation expected of the era. • Rough Pontil Scar: The base features a prominent, sharp snapped-off pontil mark, confirming traditional period manufacturing rather than a modern reproduction. • Period Glass Texture: The glass body contains charming imperfections, including tiny seed bubbles and subtle striations typical of early soda-glass formulas. A wonderful, intact acquisition for any collector of early European art glass or historic utilitarian wares. Will ship absolutely cocooned in bubble wrap in a way that would make a mummy proud.
