This is a vintage GHS ship's wheel nutcracker. wood is Bermuda cedar. about 10.25 inches. The nutcracker mechanism is made of bakelite (or similar material) in an ivory color with brass fittings, mounted on a turned hardwood bowl. It functions like a vise; turning the ship's wheel tightens the mechanism to crack nuts. The wheel is marked with a British patent number (857227), US design patent number (D-161678), and the maker's mark "GHS Made in England". These items are typically dated to the mid-20th century (1950s).Inside bowl great shape, steering wheel works, outside bowl shows some wear.
