Vintage Japanese Wooden Blonde Kokeshi Doll w Floral Kimono

Vintage Japanese Wooden Blonde Kokeshi Doll Kokeshi dolls are traditional Japanese wooden dolls that originated in the Tohoku region of northern Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). Originally created as souvenirs by craftsmen working in hot spring resorts, these dolls evolved from simple turned wood forms into artistic expressions. This particular example represents the 'sosaku' or creative style that emerged in the post-World War II era, allowing artists greater freedom in design beyond traditional regional patterns. Kokeshi dolls appeal to collectors of Japanese folk art, vintage toy enthusiasts, and those interested in mid-century decorative arts. Their minimalist aesthetic, handcrafted quality, and cultural significance make them highly sought after by collectors worldwide. The charming simplicity and artistic craftsmanship of these dolls have made them iconic symbols of Japanese traditional crafts, with vintage examples particularly valued for their authentic hand-painted details and historical connection to Japanese artisan traditions.
