This is a fantastic example of a turn-of-the-century American trade tool by the Peck, Stow & Wilcox Co. (P.S. & W. Co.). Known for their high-quality hardware, this Southington, Connecticut manufacturer is a favorite among tool collectors, and this scale features their iconic Star logo proudly stamped on the face. The scale features a flat brass faceplate with a rich, golden patina, contrasting beautifully against the heavy iron backing and hand-forged style hook. The maker's mark "P.S. & W. Co." is rendered in an elaborate script that is often mistaken for "B & W," but the accompanying Star trademark confirms its prestigious lineage. With a 25-lb capacity, this piece is the perfect size for a rustic kitchen display, industrial shelf, or antique tool collection. Key Features: Maker: Peck, Stow & Wilcox Co. (P.S. & W. Co.), USA. Markings: "P.S. & W. Co." script with the signature Star logo. Capacity: 0–25 lbs (graduated in 1 lb increments). Material: Brass faceplate over a cast iron body. Era: Late 19th to early 20th Century (c. 1890–1910). Condition: Great antique condition. The brass faceplate has a warm, authentic age-tarnish but remains bright enough that the stamped numbers and logo are clearly visible. The iron body and hook show expected oxidation and wear, adding to its primitive character. The spring mechanism is intact, and the indicator slides, though it is sold as a historical display piece.
