This is a very old piece of English folk art from the late 18th to early 19th century. This is a horse vertebrae painted to resemble the preacher John Wesley who was the founder of the Methodist movement. There is a lot of history behind the Wesley Bone on why it was created and for who and when. Although there are more of these not one is the same. I've had this one in particular in my possession for over 35 years. Despite normal aging its in pretty good condition.
