This antique heavy cast iron sad iron base was manufactured by the renowned Jas. Smart Mfg. Co. Ltd. in Brockville, Ontario. Featuring embossed lettering on the top plate, size marking "1", and the center crossbar mechanism designed to fit detachable wooden/spring handles. Perfect for Canadiana collectors, primitive rustic kitchen displays, or as a sturdy decorative doorstop / bookend. ​Condition Report: ​Structure: Solid, heavy, and structurally sound with no cracks, breaks, or structural repairs. ​Surface & Patina: Displays an authentic dark antique iron patina with natural surface rust, pitting, and oxidation appropriate for its 100+ year age. ​Markings: Embossed lettering "JAS.
