It is not the total length of the chain all the way around.Because the Kensington features a sliding pull-through chain, you can configure it two ways

This configuration will fit comfortably tucked right under your arm against your shoulder.Single Chain (Crossbody Style): Pulling the chain all the way through as a single strand extends the total drop to about 23 inches (roughly 47 inches in total length) so it can hang down by your hip.
