Vintage Japanese Kanayama Signed Lidded Pottery Jar Beautiful vintage Japanese lidded art pottery jar, featuring a warm mustard-olive glaze and deeply incised stylized floral decoration. The underside bears the two-character Japanese potter’s mark 金山, read as Kanayama. This mark is documented on early 20th-century Japanese ceramics, particularly from the late Meiji/Taishō period. Based on the mark and construction, this piece is believed to date from approximately the early 20th century. The substantial rounded form is decorated all around with large hand-incised flowers, with a coordinating floral design covering the fitted lid. A simple rounded knob completes the piece. The glaze has beautiful natural variation in shades of ochre, mustard, olive and brown, emphasizing the carved design. A particularly striking piece of Japanese decorative pottery — wonderful for a Japandi, wabi-sabi, Arts & Crafts, eclectic or collected interior. Details: * Japanese art pottery * Signed Kanayama 金山 on base * Likely early 20th century * Hand-incised floral decoration * Mustard / olive / ochre glaze * Rounded covered form * Fitted lid with knob * Glazed ceramic/stoneware * Beautiful display piece Condition: Very good vintage condition. Glaze shows the subtle variations and characteristics expected of an older handcrafted pottery piece. Please review all photographs for condition and details.
