A distinctive vintage Kashmiri-style embroidered tunic jacket, purchased in the early 2000s in Kingston, Ontario. The soft golden yellow fabric has an ochre undertone & changes subtly with the light. It has the typical irregular/slubbed texture & soft lustre associated with raw silk. There is no fibre-content label, so the exact composition cannot be confirmed. Intricate Kashmiri Aari embroidery creates a stylized garden of red and blue poppy-like flowers, curling vines & delicate foliage. The red flowers show different shades of red, while the blue flowers combine blue with beautiful light purple/lavender tones. Mandarin collar. Small buttons are covered in matching fabric. Relaxed, gently A-line/tunic silhouette with almost raglan-style shoulder construction. Not tailored at the front or back. Fully lined in mustard yellow, including the sleeves. The embroidery covers the body & lower sleeves.
